Also disappointed
I have had the same experience as Helmut - after 300km of hiking (on 4 multiday hikes) over about 18 months, the locking mechanism of first one then the other pole snapped off and disappeared inside the mechanism leaving me pole-less on the Tour De Mt Blanc. My friend had the same Black Diamond poles, same experience on the same trip. There must be a fault with the mechanism.

The poles are great until they're not
These poles are compact, and light & the grip feels great - I used them extensively to hike in all types of terrain from snow/ice to some decent mountains & they held up well & felt solid until they didn't. After about 120km of use, one pair snapped - it was under the clip around the locking button which seems to be a common thing. I reached out to support & they indicated that because it was outside of the 12-month warranty period there was nothing they could do, & there was no way of purchasing replacement parts & getting it fixed. I would have expected more usage & lifespan out of something at this price point, pretty disappointed overall
I found both locking buttons has simply snapped though metal fatigue!
After 200km of hard use; both in steep ascent and descents I found both locking buttons has simply snapped though metal fatigue. The poles are now for the bin. I can suggest that these poles cannot be stressed too hard or they will fail. The amount of metal used on the lock buttons (inside the pole) is so thin that any repeated hard use will cause these buttons to break. Very disappointed in such a poor usable lifespan. Happy to be contacted if anyone would like to see pics of the issue.
