Great Shoe
Really solid shoe, great grip and stiff enough to do some mild/moderate edging. Solid enough shoe to even do some mild trail running if you're like me and on enough of a budget to not have both haha.
Great travel hiker
I bought these for a tour in Egypt where it was hot and dry and lots of sand…they were great as a highly breathable hiker. I am a true 7.5 size and was on the fence about whether to go with the 7.5, which was indeed very snug in the store, or go up a half size which felt comfortable in store. So thankful I stuck with 7.5! They broke in so nicely after several days and now fit perfectly…every time I’ve been inclined to go up a size for immediate comfort in a hiker I have regretted it later when tripping on my toes, and these would have been the same story. Love the way these fit after a week of use! These shoes have a horrid insole however, as they are flat as a board. You will have to buy insoles for them no matter the extent of your arches. I found the laces extremely short in length…you can barely tie them. However they work like magic in that they do not come untied! No double-knotting or cranking them tight…they simply do not come untied somehow. The only laces I’ve ever come across that don’t besides my waxed hockey skate laces! And the color combination simply can’t be beat for style points to boot. Nice tread that sheds dirt. Live the elastic bib fit at ankle to keep out sand and scree. The loops on heel were a packing lifesaver as I had to clip them to the outside of my carry-on daypack when flying to save space in suitcase. These were perfect choice for my trip!
Comfortable but not durable. Climbing performance is adequate.
I am a regular 5.10- climber doing a lot of alpine climbing in the 5.7 range. Here in the WA cascades long approaches and ledgy climbing is typical. I can only wear my regular rock shoes for about 3 pitches before my feet start to scream so I got these with hopes to carry fewer shoes and to avoid the pain w/o buying a new pair of rock shoes. I find them comfortable on approaches but definitely not as supportive as a pair of trail runners IMO. I haven’t done anything longer than 8 miles in them, but I find myself sacrificing the weight and just bring my trail runners in that case. Performance is great on boulders, scree, talus. Have also used on snow w/ BD spikes and find the stiffer soles and low profile work better than trail runners. Rock performance is adequate and perhaps the technician model would have suited me better. The toe box is chunky so it’s pretty hard to toe jam and the extra space doesn’t inspire confidence on thin edges. I find 5.8 to be a pretty good standard for me in these shoes with the exception of steep friction slabs or thin cracks. Great for comfortable belays, rapelling, chill climbing and medium approaches. They fit true to size but need a few days to break in. Don’t expect to wear right out of box or you will get blisters. A good budget option but limited to mid range and easy climbing.
Comfortable! Sticky! Anti Scree!
Size up 1/2 size!!! Very comfortable on long approach. Climbed 3000 vertical 4th and low 5th out of the box. Knit collar discouraged scree so I could keep going without taking shoes off on descent.
Great Shoe
Just spent a week in the Winds and this shoe was comfortable for the 15 mile hike in and performed well on the approaches and descents through steep slabs, scree and talus fields.
